Thomas J Walls Coffee
Relaxed Edinburgh coffee shop with brunch, high chairs, and outdoor seating in a cosy wood-and-brick space.

Tucked a short walk from the National Museum, this is a calmer, more laid-back room than you'd expect for the area — the kind of place where a long dinner with children doesn't feel like an imposition. Buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu are all in place, and dishes are cooked to your preferred spice level, which makes it genuinely workable for younger palates. Portions are generous, the momos (steamed or fried) come up again and again, as do the chowmein, butter chicken and chicken tikka masala; the Himalayan Sizzler arrives flaming, which children find thrilling and grown-ups find startling. Staff are warm and attentive, and food is presented with care. Vegan options are available. It's a proper sit-down dinner rather than a quick in-and-out, so go when you have time to linger.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
