Coffee Shops · Barnsley
Perched by the mill and reservoir, this is the sort of stop that works whether you're starting a walk or collapsing after one. There's seating indoors and out, so a pram isn't a problem in warmer months, and free parking takes one worry off the morning. The kids' pizzas are made fresh with flour milled on site and go down well, as does the handmade gelato; adults tend to rave about the cheese and ham toastie, the halloumi burrito and a cake counter running to around twenty varieties, vegan ones included. Food arrives fast even when it's heaving, which matters with a hungry three-year-old. Do know it gets genuinely busy at weekends and in school holidays — one family found the café full inside but still got a table outside without much trouble.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
