About Marco Polo

The oldest Italian in Newcastle, and it wears it well — cosy, warm, the sort of room that makes you want to linger over pudding rather than hurry everyone into coats. High chairs, buggy access and a kids' menu are all sorted, and the service is the real draw: warm, attentive, quick without feeling rushed, which matters enormously when a small person has decided they are hungry *now*. Pizzas come out with a light, crisp base and generous toppings, the carbonara is properly authentic, and the seafood risotto and lamb meatballs both get raved about. The pre-theatre set menu at around £19.95 is genuinely good value for three courses. Worth flagging allergies clearly yourself when you book — one family found the team didn't ask. Chocolate pot for dessert if you can manage it.
