Tucked in the centre of Nottingham, this one surprises people — the interior is more concert hall than pub, with a stage in the middle and a ceiling that makes children look up. It's roomy enough for a buggy, there are high chairs and a kids' menu, and stacks of board games to get you through a two-hour booking, which helps enormously when someone's restless. Sunday roasts are the thing: generous portions, good Yorkshire puddings, beef and pork belly both raved about, and around £17.50 for the chicken. Staff are generally warm and good with mixed dietary needs, though service can be hit and miss on a busy day, and food sometimes lands warm rather than hot. There's no table service — grab a table first, then order at the counter. Upstairs gets very hot in summer, so sit down below with little ones.
