Café · Wells
Tucked into Wells with a large sheltered courtyard out back, this is the rare café that has actually thought about children — there's a play area inside, high chairs, a kids' menu and room to get a pram in, plus a little shop selling children's clothes to browse while you wait. And you may wait: when it's busy, food can take 30 to 45 minutes, though the staff check in and keep you posted. Breakfast is the draw — thick-cut bacon and egg rolls with homemade ketchup, French toast, pancakes with maple syrup, granola bowls, and cinnamon rolls one parent describes as "the size of my head". Gluten-free and vegan options too. Inside is snug and cheerfully arty, which does mean a wailing toddler carries; on a fine day the outdoor tables solve that. Not cheap, but the food earns it.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
