Tucked down a back street about ten minutes' walk from the station, this is a proper old-fashioned Cambridge local — wooden floors, two open fires, brewery memorabilia everywhere and an L-shaped room that stays surprisingly calm even when full, so you can talk at normal volume rather than shouting over the noise. The staff are genuinely warm and quick, there are high chairs and a kids' menu, and the small covered courtyard out the back is a sun trap, though tables sit close together so a pram takes some manoeuvring. Food comes from a Greek kitchen up the road, delivered to the pub at no extra cost — big, fairly priced portions, with the hummus, the arayes and the pork pie and scotch egg all winning praise. Grown-ups get six hand pumps of well-kept real ale. One parent calls it "a proper British pub".
