Just across the road from the train station, this is a proper old-fashioned Liverpool café that happens to do very good food. The all-day breakfasts come out fast even when it's busy — a group of six were served within minutes of each other — which matters when someone at the table is losing patience. Portions are generous: the steak baguette is huge, and the sausages are the good, proper kind rather than the usual café ones. The key lime pie is what people come back for. There's a kids' menu, high chairs, milkshakes and canned drinks children will like, plus outdoor seating and room to get a pram in. Staff are warm and unfussy about swapped or mistaken orders. It's a little pricier than average, cakes aren't always priced up, and the tables near the door can feel draughty.
