Tucked on Plymouth's marina about five minutes from the ferry terminal, this is an easy stop with children in tow — free parking for the first hour, then 50p for two more, buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu, plus outdoor seating when the weather plays along. The fish and chips is what people come back for: light, almost tempura-crisp batter, flaky white fish, a big pile of chips, crushed peas and a chunky homemade tartare sauce one parent wished they could buy by the jar. Roasts land well too, with tender beef and proper Yorkshires, and portions are generous for the price. The calamari comes surprisingly tender.
