A small spot on James Street opposite the Co-op, this is the kind of café where the family running it clocks you at the door and smiles before you've got the pram parked. Buggy access is easy, high chairs are there, and there's outdoor seating for when a toddler needs to be loud somewhere else. Food comes out fast — no queues, no waiting around — and the portions are genuinely enormous for the money, with the full English at around £11 and drinks arriving in mugs one parent describes as "massive". Breakfast is the thing people come back for: proper sausages, poached eggs on sourdough, well-seasoned and cooked with care in a semi-open kitchen. There's a kids' menu and vegan options too. Fair warning: it's traditional greasy-spoon cooking rather than refined, no toast with the full English, and the tables can wobble.
