Gloucester Docks does a lot of the heavy lifting here — waterfront views from the outdoor tables, buggy access along the quayside, and parking that people repeatedly describe as painless, which matters more than it should when you're unloading two children and a nappy bag. Inside is friendly rather than fussy; the staff read the table well and keep things moving even when it's packed, and food arrives fast enough to head off a meltdown. Portions are generous, the dips and salads taste properly fresh, and the vegan menu is unusually long — the vegan gyros and aubergine bake get particular praise. Three courses runs around £30 a head, so it's a treat rather than a Tuesday. One snag: a few dishes, the spanakopita especially, can taste reheated. Check which menu you're ordering from — lunch and main are priced differently.
