Baghlan Special Restaurant
Warm Afghan family spot in Southampton with free parking, high chairs, floor seating, generous fresh-cooked grills and staff who are lovely with children.

Malaysian · Southampton
Tucked away in a spot that doesn't look like much from outside, this small Malaysian and Chinese kitchen is run by a family who clearly take pride in it — spotless tables, patient staff, and a genuine willingness to tweak a dish for a fussy eater (one family had their daughter's noodles made to order and she was handed an ice cream afterwards). Food comes out hot and fast, which matters when someone's losing patience. The curry laksa gets the most praise — rich, properly spiced, tasting like a hawker stall back home — along with prawn noodles, nasi lemak, chicken rice and BBQ ribs people still talk about. Prices are low, portions generous, halal options available, and there are high chairs, a kids' menu and buggy access. It's cosy rather than roomy, so a big pram may be tight at busy times.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
