Opposite the Clayton Hotel in Bristol, this is a small, quirky Belgian beer bar that's found a second life as a loaded-fries kitchen — and it works better with small children than you'd expect. Chips come chunky and heavily topped: vegan, Greek, beef stew, or satay with whole peanuts, £7 a portion or £12 for a double, and one parent's one-year-old was perfectly happy demolishing a plate of plain ones. There's a kids' menu, high chairs and a few outdoor tables, and the staff are chatty and genuinely knowledgeable rather than rushed. Two honest snags: it's a tight room that fills up on Friday nights, so a pram is a squeeze and it's calmer around teatime or later in the evening; and it's pricey for what it is. The blue cheese burger gets rave notices too.
