An easygoing, budget-friendly Cardiff pub with rustic tables, an outdoor terrace, TV sports and honest, unpretentious food.

Set in the trees at the edge of Forest Fawr, this is the kind of stop that works when everyone needs a rest. There's a good spread of seating inside and out, so a buggy isn't a problem, and free parking sits right there — though it's only a few spaces, so arrive early at weekends. The food is simple and honest, done well and fast, which matters when a child has hit their limit: big slices of cake, gluten-free options, proper barista coffee, and prices low enough that a family lunch doesn't sting. A fire roars inside on cold days, and the loos are clean. Two honest notes: outdoor tables aren't always cleared promptly, and there's very little for vegans. The staff are warm with children and dogs alike — one parent found it "almost fairy tale".

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
