Tucked into a converted steam engine shed alongside a craft and antiques shop, this is the kind of place where a family lunch turns into a proper morning out — children can wander the gift and jewellery cases while you finish your tea. The cooking is simple and local: beef and ale pie that one family thought worth calling the chef out for, Sunday roasts, welsh rarebit, onion rings good enough that people order a second plate, and homemade pastries and cakes you can take home for later. Portions are generous and prices reasonable, and the staff are warm and unhurried — "nothing is too much trouble", as one parent put it.
