Set in an old Bank of Scotland building, this one trades on atmosphere — high ceilings, quirky seating, that proper old-fashioned pub feel — and it's busy enough that booking is worth doing if you're bringing children and need a table rather than a scramble. There's a kids' menu, high chairs and buggy access, and a handful of outside tables when the weather allows. Food is the draw: the Scottish pie gets rapturous mentions, as do the haggis, neeps and tatties, the fish pie and the burgers, and portions are generous even at starter size. It isn't cheap — pints run near £7 — but the pub grub is fair value. Service is friendly and food comes out hot. Live Scottish music Sunday afternoons from 4 is lovely, though it makes the room considerably louder.
