About Drouthy's
Two minutes from Queen Street station, this old-school Greene King pub does one thing brilliantly for families: breakfast. Come early on a Saturday and it's quiet, cosy and cheap, with a proper Scottish fry-up, hot drinks and staff who genuinely look after you — one of the few places in the city centre serving food before noon on a Sunday, which is worth knowing with hungry children. The dark, Dickensian interior charms kids, and there's a kids' menu, high chairs, buggy access and a few outdoor tables. The steak and ale pie and fish and chips both get regular praise. Do come in the daytime, though: evenings bring live music and karaoke, and it gets loud enough that one visitor left because they couldn't hear each other talk. Booking is wise, but ring ahead to confirm food is actually being served.
