About Dobson and Parnell

Sitting on the Quayside, this is a proper grown-up restaurant that happens to make room for children — high chairs, buggy access and a kids' menu, plus vegan options. The open kitchen with its charcoal grill gives little ones something to watch while they wait, and the staff have a reputation for being attentive and genuinely warm with families rather than merely tolerant. Food is modern British and ambitious: the beef Wellington sharer, grilled North Shields halibut, tempura enoki mushrooms and the truffled cauliflower focaccia all get raved about, and the weekday three-plate lunch offer at around £19.50 makes it far more affordable than the à la carte. Be honest with yourself about the setting, though — it's smart, it's on the pricier side, and one parent noted the price-to-quality ratio didn't quite justify a return. Booking is wise.
