Tucked at the quiet end of Rose Street, this is a small, old, gloriously cluttered pub — fairy lights across the ceiling, decorations on every wall, the sort of place children stare at. It's cosy rather than roomy, so a pram is easier in the outdoor seating, and worth knowing the noise level stays comfortable rather than raucous, which one family singled out as the reason they stayed. High chairs and a kids' menu are there, and the staff are chatty and accommodating. Food comes from a tiny kitchen at the end of the bar but punches well above it: haggis bonbons, steak pies, and nachos under a genuinely absurd mountain of cheese, easily shared between two. You order and pay at the bar. Drinks aren't cheap — around £7.60 a Guinness — and service can drift when it's busy.
