Tucked on the first floor above the Traverse theatre on Cambridge Street, this is a handy spot before a show at the Usher Hall, and the big panoramic windows give little ones something to watch while they wait. Buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu are all sorted, though the room is fairly small and busy, so booking is wise. The cooking is genuinely good rather than showy — pork cheeks, venison, monkfish and short ribs come up again and again, and gluten-free diners are looked after properly. Staff tend to pre-empt what you need before you ask, which helps enormously with an impatient child. Two honest snags: it's loud enough that you'll need to speak up when ordering, and portions are sensible rather than huge, so hungry teenagers may want three courses. Good value for the quality, and cocktails are £6.50 before 6pm.
