Come hungry — portions here are the kind that send everyone home with a to-go box, and the food is proper old-school cooking: roast beef dinners on a Sunday, gammon, duck leg, burgers and sandwiches alongside more traditional plates, with complimentary wheaten bread and butter to start. It's a genuinely warm room for families: high chairs, a kids' menu, buggy access and free parking, and staff who are patient and happy to talk you through gluten-free options, of which there are plenty. Seating runs upstairs and down, so ask for the ground floor if you've a pram in tow. Around £25–30 a head. The one snag: it gets very busy, and without a booking you may end up waiting outside — one parent found the whole thing "over and above" once they'd prebooked.
