A working microbrewery in the middle of Southampton might not sound like an obvious family lunch, but the upstairs dining room is the reason it works — spacious and airy, well away from the bar downstairs, with high chairs, a kids' menu and enough room to park a buggy without apologising to anyone. Staff are consistently patient and helpful, and there's an outdoor area for warm days. The pork belly and the ribs get the most affection, and the Sunday roast has a real following. Two honest caveats: the building is listed, so no gas or fryers — the menu is shorter than you'd expect and a few dishes are unremarkable — and prices sit a touch above pub-standard. But the historic building, full of odd knick-knacks, keeps children looking around while you finish your plate.
