McCooley's Mathew Street
A lively Liverpool pub on Mathew Street with outdoor seating and easygoing ££ prices for the family.

Italian · Liverpool
Booking is only for groups of six or more here, so with a small family you may end up queuing outside — ten minutes on a quiet evening, closer to half an hour at busy times, which is worth knowing before anyone gets hungry. Once you're in, it's a proper old-school Italian: warm, bustling, and the staff are chatty and quick, with food often arriving sizzling on hot plates. There's a kids' menu, high chairs and vegan options, and prices are lower than you'd expect for the city centre. The lasagne, calamari and pesto pasta get the most love, and smaller pasta portions are genuinely filling. Ice cream scoops are enormous — one between two children is plenty. Two snags: bass from the club next door can carry through, and one parent found the carbonara bland.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
