Tucked down a staircase from street level in the middle of Cambridge, this basement burger spot is smaller than you'd expect, so it's worth booking or arriving early if you've got a pram to park — tables are spaced well apart once you're seated, and the room is clean and rustic rather than cramped. Food comes out fast, which matters when someone's hit the wall, and the staff are warm and unbothered by a noisy table. There's a kids' menu and high chairs. The burgers are the reason to come — the Marrow Me and Smokey Joe both get raved about — and portions are generous, with peppercorn-sauce fries and Oreo shakes worth sharing. Prices are fairer than the tourist-centre location suggests. One snag: food sometimes arrives only lukewarm.
