Turkish cooking in the middle of Cockermouth's old quarter, and the sort of place where the owners come over to your table for a chat. Portions are generous without being silly — chicken shish or the Adana arrive with flatbread, rice and salad, and complimentary olives, gherkins and bread land while you wait, which is a genuine mercy with a hungry toddler. Food comes out quickly, and a party of nineteen once ate here without ever feeling rushed. High chairs, a kids' menu, buggy access and vegan options are all in place, plus free street parking and a few outdoor tables. Two honest snags: the upstairs dining room is a touch cramped for prams, and it's pricier than most places in town. Save room for the katmer — puff pastry with clotted cream, described by regulars as "melt in your mouth".

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
