A proper Manchester city-centre boozer just off Deansgate, this one runs on Joseph Holt's beer and genuinely good-value food — the burgers get the loudest praise, and there's a curry night and a Sunday roast if you're feeding a family without spending much. High chairs, a kids' menu and buggy access are all in place, and the staff have a reputation for being friendly and chatty rather than harried. The layout spreads over more than one floor, with a small roof terrace and an outdoor area that's useful when children need air. Worth knowing: it's a pub first, so big sporting weekends bring crowds and TV noise — earlier in the day is calmer, and one visitor found a Saturday afternoon oddly flat. Toilets are kept clean and well maintained. Dogs are welcome too.
