The Milkman
A relaxed Edinburgh coffee shop with outdoor seating and vegan options — an easy family pause during a day in the city.

Restaurant · Edinburgh
Right off the Royal Mile, this is a proper Scottish pub-restaurant that families tend to stumble into after a long day of walking, then come back to. The haggis is the thing people rave about — peppery and rich on silky neeps and tatties with a whisky cream sauce — and the fish and chips has been known to make visitors change their travel plans to get a second go. There's a kids' menu and high chairs, plus outside tables that are easier with a pram than the cosy interior. Staff are generally warm and quick, though it's a busy whisky bar as much as a restaurant, so lunchtime is calmer than a weekend evening and patience for boisterous children can vary. Portions on the steak divide opinion. Worth arriving early or waiting for a table.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
