A big city-centre pub where the crowd changes character depending on when you arrive — quiet enough on a weekday afternoon for children to spread out, and genuinely lively by evening, so lunchtime is the safer bet with little ones. Staff tend to go out of their way: one family found the kitchen happy to be asked what could be adapted for the kids, and food landed in about twenty minutes with portions parents called well-judged. There's a kids' menu, high chairs and step-free access for a pram, plus an outdoor seating area that comes into its own on a sunny day. Dogs are made a fuss of too, right down to a "dog of the week". Worth knowing: it can get busy, service slows when it does, and the slot machines are a bit of a presence.
