The Cowley Retreat
A lively Oxford pub with live music, a British menu and a decked terrace for outdoor seating and BBQs.

Middle Eastern · Oxford
Cowley Road, opposite the Tesco Express, with paid parking behind it — handy if you're arriving with a car full of kids. Inside, Middle Eastern music plays and the kitchen is open, so children can watch the flatbreads go into the oven while they wait, which buys you a few precious minutes. Portions are generous and prices reasonable, the bread arrives hot, and the falafel comes out properly crisp. Breakfast is a highlight — the shakshuka is big enough to share, and one family found it came with baklava and a hot drink thrown in. The za'atar flatbread, baba ganoush and mint lemonade all get raved about. Staff are warm with everyone who walks in. Worth knowing: some menu items only appear after 5pm, so check before you promise a child something.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
