Tucked a little off the beaten track, this is the kind of country pub where a family of five can spread out without anyone shushing you — plenty of room inside, a beer garden for when the children need to run, high chairs, buggy access and free parking right there. Food comes out fast and piping hot, which matters when someone's patience is fraying, and portions are genuinely huge for the price: the £10 parmo has a following, the Sunday carvery does beef, pork and turkey with a proper spread of vegetables, and the puddings are homemade. Vegetarians are looked after too. Prices are sensible, though soft drinks creep up. Service is warm and chatty from most of the team, if occasionally brisk at the carvery counter. Dogs welcome. One party of thirteen called it "great food and fabulous banter".
