Sitting right on the banks of the Trent, this one earns its keep on a sunny day — the terrace looks out over the water, there's plenty of room to park a pram between the booths, and free parking takes one worry off the list. It's noticeably calmer than the city-centre places, with lots of seating options, so a wriggly toddler won't feel like a spectacle. Sunday roasts are the thing people come back for: proper roasties, buttered greens, and a Yorkshire pudding filled with braised beef shin that's worth ordering for its own sake. There are pizzas too, including a vegan one and a four-cheese, alongside a kids' menu and high chairs. Staff are friendly and do proper table service rather than queuing at the bar. Dogs are welcome in the bar and outside. It gets busy in good weather.
