Tucked into a converted agricultural workshop, this one earns the trip — and the upstairs is the reason children stay put. Nature Makes runs up there, where kids build model fairy houses and boats and stay absorbed for ages while parents finish a coffee. Downstairs is relaxed and roomy enough for a pram, and the team are warmly patient with babies, dogs and any extra request you throw at them. Food is home-grown and home-reared: yoghurt bowls and sourdough marmalade toast at breakfast, mackerel with miso and a zesty salad at lunch, and a Sunday roast people rave about. The pressed juices — carrot and apple, beetroot and apple — go down well with children. Free parking, high chairs, a kids' menu and outdoor seating. Organic veg and flowers on the way out.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
