Getting out of town to a quiet country spot pays off here — big windows look onto well-kept gardens, tables are spaced generously enough that a pram isn't in anyone's way, and the atmosphere stays relaxed rather than hushed. Roasts arrive plentiful with separately served vegetables including cauliflower cheese, the lamb shank pie has properly made pastry, and the sticky toffee pudding gets talked about long afterwards; the kitchen is happy to tweak dishes for fussy eaters. There's a kids' menu, high chairs, garden seating and ample free parking with a couple of EV charging points. Staff are friendly and attentive without hovering, though service can be slow to start and larger groups have seen orders muddled — worth flagging if you're on a tight nap-window schedule. One family called it simply "the perfect way to spend Mother's Day".

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
