Seafood · Whitby
Whitby's fish-and-chip queues are legendary, so it helps that this one is a big, properly organised sit-down restaurant rather than a scrum — book ahead and you'll walk past the line. There's room to get a pram in, high chairs, and free parking, plus a lift up to clean toilets, which matters when you're carrying a toddler. Food comes out quickly even when it's full. Children get a three-course deal with a drink, and portions are generous enough that adults often share. The haddock is flakier than the cod, the batter stays crisp, and the chips — fried in beef dripping — get more praise than the fish. Sticky toffee pudding and homemade lemon cheesecake are worth staying for. It isn't cheap: fish and chips runs £13.50 upwards, and sides are charged separately.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
