Pub · Manchester
Tucked down one of the alleyways near the town hall, this is a proper old-fashioned boozer that's easier to enjoy than it is to find, so allow a few minutes wandering with the pram. Inside there are loads of seats, which makes a difference when you arrive with a buggy and a hungry child — high chairs and a kids' menu are on hand, and there's outdoor seating for warmer days. The pies do the heavy lifting: chicken and mushroom, steak and ale, or the meat-free version, all with mash or chips, mushy peas and gravy. Bruschetta and onion rings go down well too. The staff are warm and unhurried with families, and dogs are welcome. Two things to know: drinks can be steep for a round, and Saturday nights turn into a DJ-and-dancing affair rather than a family tea.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
