Set in an old mill right on the River Wye, this is one of those places where the setting does half the work — the water runs beneath the building, and the garden seating by the river is the spot to aim for on a warm day, with plenty of room for a pram and space for children to be children without anyone tutting. Parking is genuinely easy: Bakewell Bridge car park is a few steps away, with Smith's Island a minute further if it's full. The team are friendly and quick, food arrives piping hot and portions are big — the four-cheese pizza, fish and chips and mushroom pie all get praised, and the toilets are clean. Kids' menu and high chairs sorted, vegan options too. It's not flawless — busy days can mean long waits — so book ahead if you can.
