Pack Horse
A friendly, budget-friendly Newcastle pub with outdoor seating and a familiar menu of grills and comfort food, well-rated by over 1,500 visitors.

Restaurant · Newcastle upon Tyne
Just outside Whickham, this is a proper sit-down pub lunch rather than a quick pit stop — and it's set up for the practical stuff, with free parking, buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu. Inside is genuinely lovely: flowers, lights, a fire that's worth angling for on a cold day, and staff who go out of their way for people who need a bit of help getting in. Portions are big enough that boxes get offered for the leftovers, and the sticky toffee pudding has a following. Bao buns, the beetroot, blue cheese and walnut salad and fish and chips all get praise, though Sunday roasts are hit-and-miss and desserts push the bill up fast. Book ahead for Sundays. The outdoor area is the draw in warmer weather.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
