Tucked beside the old Curzon Street station, this historic Birmingham boozer has been sensitively restored, with several small rooms and a preserved interior worth a wander towards the back. Buggy access works and there are high chairs and a kids' menu, though it's on the snug side — you may need to time your visit to find a table with room to park a pram. The outside seating is the real win with children: you can watch the world go by across Eastside Park and hear kids working the Thinktank contraptions opposite. Staff are consistently friendly and the ale range is serious, with seven or eight cask ales and Bass in famously good condition. Food is a simple bar menu of cobs and snacks rather than fast kitchen cooking — one visitor waited over an hour for a pie, so don't come on a tight schedule.
