Countryside nursery café with excellent coffee, standout cakes, free parking and high chairs — quick, warm service, but snug at weekends.

Restaurants · Alfreton
Set in quiet countryside just outside Alfreton, this pub-restaurant is the sort of place where a family meal turns into a proper occasion without anyone feeling rushed or watched. Getting in from the car park is flat and easy — a real relief with a buggy or a wheelchair — and parking is free, with plenty of spaces. The staff and owners are attentive without hovering; one grandparent brought a two-year-old along and found them patient and polite throughout. Food is the draw: a varied menu, generous quality across starters, mains and desserts, and a vegan Sunday roast produced quickly for someone who turned up unannounced. There are high chairs, a kids' menu and outdoor seating that works on warm days, plus walks nearby. Worth knowing: it's not a cheap night out — expect around £45 a head with drinks — and booking is sensible.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
