As You Like It
A grand Newcastle events venue with a kids' menu, high chairs and outdoor seating — lovely when quiet, slow when a big function's in.

Indian · Newcastle upon Tyne
Tucked just off the dual carriageway, this is a curry house inside an old railway carriage, and walking in through the train doors is a genuine bit of theatre that tends to distract children long enough for you to sit down. It's cosy rather than cavernous, so a folded pram is easier than a full one, and it gets properly busy at weekends — worth booking. High chairs and a kids' menu are there, and free parking takes one worry off the trip. Service stays quick even when full, though one family did wait a long stretch on a bad night. Portions are generous: the chicken tikka kebab, lamb chana gosht and the shat kora with lamb all get raved about, and the pickle tray is a hit with grazers. Soft drinks are steep at £4 a pint, but two courses for four still lands sensibly.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
