About The Toby Jug

Cheap pints are the draw here — around £2 a go, which is why it's usually mobbed and why the beer garden has a bit of a reputation. That said, the rear dining area is quieter and noticeably clean, and with high chairs, buggy access and a kids' menu it works for a daytime stop rather than an evening one. It's a short walk from Glasgow Central and right by the Hope Street bus gate, so getting there with a pram is easy. Be straight with expectations on food: the steak pie and mac and cheese are hit and miss, and one parent found the veggie burger bare. Stick to drinks and something simple. The bar gets busy enough that service slows, and staff warmth varies — though the team have been known to go out of their way when someone leaves a phone behind.
