A thatched pub out in Madingley, a short drive from Cambridge with free parking — though it fills up, so the car park can get tight. Inside there's a proper dining room plus a big conservatory, and tables are spaced generously enough that a pram isn't a problem; one family managed a table for two and a baby without booking, but that was luck. It gets busy and cheerful without being shouty. The Sunday roast is the thing people come back for — crisp potatoes, a towering Yorkshire pudding — and the sticky toffee pudding genuinely feeds two. There's a kids' menu, high chairs, vegan options and a heated outhouse for cooler days. Big gardens at the side and rear are lovely in the sun. Book ahead; the vegetarian wellington is delicious but small.
