The Old Red Lion pub and village shop
Warm village pub-and-shop with a play park across the road, generous cooked-to-order food and staff who take toddlers in their stride.

Set in a beautiful old building that's been properly looked after, this is the kind of place where the low ceilings at the entrance open out into a roomier dining area at the back with tables and booths — worth asking for that end if you've a pram in tow. Buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu are all sorted, and there's a garden that comes into its own in warmer months. The cod loin with triple-cooked chips and the cheese soufflé are what people come back for, and Sunday roasts are usually a strong bet, though standards have wobbled on that front lately. Staff are consistently kind and attentive, even when the kitchen has an off day. Vegan options exist but tend to be salad-light. The rear car park is free but tight — park elsewhere if you can.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
