Cafés · Barnsley
Tucked away in a housing estate in Dodworth, this small, cosy café is the sort of place you'd drive past without knowing — which is exactly why families end up here instead of joining the long queue at the National Trust café down the road. It's compact rather than roomy, so a buggy needs a bit of manoeuvring, but there's step-free access, high chairs and a kids' menu, plus free parking right there. Food comes out hot and fast, which matters when someone's hungry and losing patience. The homemade chips and cheesy chips get raved about, the eggs benedict has its devotees, and the full breakfasts are generous and cheap. Homemade cakes too. Staff are warm with children — one parent said they were "so good with my daughter today". Busy with tradespeople picking up takeaways at peak times.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
