Cafés · Edinburgh
Tucked inside Colinton Church and run by volunteers, this bright little café looks out over a stream and woods, with a small playground outside and — through the back window — the swing Robert Louis Stevenson played on as a boy. The setting does a lot of work when children need somewhere to run about between courses. Home baking is the draw: raspberry scones, soup, thick creamy mac and cheese with warm garlic bread, well-filled paninis, bacon and egg rolls. Prices are gentle for Edinburgh and portions are filling. There's a kids' menu, high chairs and buggy access, and the volunteers are genuinely warm with families — one visitor found the service "more about community than a typical café". It's small, so busy spells can feel tight, and the coffee gets mixed opinions.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
