About The Square Peg - JD Wetherspoon

Set inside a former department store, the scale of this place is the first thing you notice — it's cavernous, which means a pram isn't a problem and there's usually a big table free or a quiet corner to retreat to. Food comes out fast even when it's heaving, which matters when someone's hit the wall. Kids' portions are generous, the sausages and fish and chips go down well, and hot drinks are about as cheap as they come for a coffee stop mid-shop. Breakfast between 9 and 12 is the real bargain. Be honest with yourself about weekends, though: it gets loud and lively, the crowd is a proper city-centre mix, and food quality is hit and miss — some visits land better than others. High chairs and a kids' menu are on hand.
