Sunday lunch is the main event here, and it's worth booking ahead for — the place fills up and deservedly so. Roasts arrive fast (one family had three on the table within 15 minutes, which matters when a toddler has hit the wall), and they come out properly hot, with a nut roast option and vegetables that get as much praise as the meat: the creamed leeks in particular. The conservatory is the spot to aim for with a pram — roomy, bright, doors thrown open in summer, and there's a big garden with benches and umbrellas plus plenty of easy free parking. Inside is cosier, with a real fire. Staff are unhurried and patient, happy to make suggestions and not rushing anyone out. High chairs and a kids' menu; puddings are a genuine weakness, especially the sticky toffee.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
