Totterdown's local has turned into something of a destination — Caribbean cooking Thursday through Sunday that people genuinely rave about, from tender chicken curry and jerk pork dirty fries to curried goat and a vegan curry that gets its own exclamation marks. Downstairs is proper old-pub: roaring fire, comfy sofas, friendly locals. There's a dining room upstairs if you want a bit more space, plus outdoor seating, high chairs, a kids' menu and buggy access on the ground floor. Portions are hefty — the pies especially — so come hungry. Staff are warm and go out of their way. Worth knowing: it's a lively place with live music, DJs on Friday and Saturday and open mic on Wednesdays, so lunchtimes and early evenings suit young families far better than late on.
