Seafood · Padstow
Rick Stein's harbourside flagship in Padstow is a proper occasion meal rather than a quick family lunch, but it does welcome children — kids' menu, high chairs, buggy access through the door, and a few outdoor tables. Service is relaxed and warm, and staff are good at noticing when a table is celebrating something. The scallops with pea purée, the Indonesian seafood curry and the lobster risotto all draw praise, and the caramelised white chocolate tart is worth saving room for. Be clear-eyed on cost: à la carte is steep (scallops are charged per piece, Dover sole tops £60), there's a 12.5% service charge, and the £75 four-course menu has to be ordered by the whole table. The £40 set lunch is the sensible way in. No street parking — use the harbour car park, which fills fast in summer. Book ahead.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
