About The Sawyer's Arms

Right in the middle of Manchester, this is a proper old pub — high ceilings, plenty of history in the room, and enough space that a buggy isn't a problem. There's a kids' menu and high chairs, and the staff get consistent praise for being warm and quick at the bar even when it's heaving. Fish and chips is the thing to order; portions are generous enough that one can stretch between a child and an adult. Ordering at the table by phone works well, though food can take 30–40 minutes at busy times. Two honest snags: it gets genuinely loud from early evening with football on the screens and music playing, and popular dishes do sell out at weekends. Pints are city-centre prices, but one parent calls the food "really good value" for the location.
