A quirky independent bar near Meadowbank Retail Park, this one surprises people — it looks like a fun local, then the open kitchen turns out food that stops conversations. Small plates, burgers and tacos are the draw (the beef shin and oxtail tacos, the fish bites with orange zest mayo, the gnocchi and dumplings all get raved about), and the Sunday roast is properly generous and genuinely good value when the rest of the menu isn't cheap. The rear area is where food is served and stays quieter than the front, which helps with children — there's a kids' menu, high chairs and buggy access, and the staff are attentive and quick at the table.
